The sun is one of the major reasons of why we are alive today; it radiates rays of heat that prevent us from freezing; it is our primary source of light; and it also can be used as a source of energy. Given all these pros about the sun, why would we want to protect ourselves from it? The Sun sends Ultraviolet rays that can be harmful to the skin and eventually cause skin cancer, or even cause eye diseases such as Macular Degeneration, which is caused by a a long term damage to the eye; Cataracts, which is the clouding of the lenses near the eye; Photokeratitis, which is a painful eye condition caused by insufficiently protected eyes; Pinguecula, a yellow spot appearing on the eye near the conjunctiva, which is caused by deposits of calcium, fat, and protein; and Pterygium, which is a fleshy tissue that starts out as a Pinguecula and then grows bigger as the eye swells that can eventually cover the entire cornea, blocking out your vision.
